Photos by Mrs. Day The Woon Watershed Study began in September. Each month, Cynthia Morrissette, an educator from the Narragansett Bay Commission, co-ordinates hands-on activities with the school's science life science program. Here are the photos taken by Mrs. Day when the instructor visited the school on September 8. On November 4, grades 3,4 and 5 visited Belmont Park as part of the program. The students completed a site observation and did several water quality experiments with their group leaders. Photos of the Belmont Park visit. Building a Watershed The water studies continued on December 17, 2009 when Cynthia Morrissette again visited the school bringing with her several resources to teach the grades 3, 4 and 5 students about amphibians. Here are photos that show the students seeing the results of the testing and then recording the important scientific details in their notebooks. On February 4, the students continued studying about the properties of clean water by learning about Macroinvertebrates. Here is a photo slideshow which shows the students and what they studied. On March 18, the students in Grades 3,4 and 5 read aloud their research papers about macroinvertebrates. They also learned which nanimals make the best pets and which animals do not make good pets.
